Crysalla Sex and Gender Overview

Return to Crysalla  Species Directory

Sex and Gender are complicated topics for the denizens of Siablan due to them having such varied sex systems between species.

Sex

Crysalla are ectothermic, have one cosexual sex with ZW chromosomes, internal gonads and a cloaca, reproduce via penetration, and lay a clutch of one egg on average. Crysalla ovulate once every 1 Sialla year, and the gestation period is 1 year.

  • Crysalla natural mating patterns are typically non-monogamous, although it is more common to mate for life in modern day. Crysalla perform elaborate airborne courtship dances, similar to eagles. Crysalla will gently bite each other to show affection, rub their faces against one another, or wrap their wings around each other in a hug. They purr when they are content.
  • Crysalla are considered adults at the age of 2,000. They begin ovulation at 1,500, but are not considered sexually mature. Breeding at such a young age is dangerous to the Crysalla.
  • Crysalla technically have two sexualities in their society, allosexual and asexual. However, some Crysalla who pursue Nocmyr or Gannea partners may exhibit gendered preferences.
  • In Crysalla reproduction, the sire passes down the Z chromosome and the dam passes down the W.
Gender

Crysalla, having one sex, do not have a concept of gender identity. Sialli has two pronouns; animate (Sisha/Sishe/Sihalla) and inanimate (Sossa/Sosse/Sossalla)

  • Crysalla may be referred to as a specific gender or pronouns by Gannea, who have a gender trinary, or by Nocmyr, who have a gender binary.
  • Crysalla may choose to refer to themselves as Sossa, as a form of identity expression, however it is very rare, as it is also used as a derogatory term for Crysalla with Petrification, as they are slowly turning inanimate.
